THUNDER BAY – Love, ambition, and self discovery are three themes that Magnus Theatre is bringing to its main stage starting this weekend.

Featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tell Me on a Sunday follows the journey of a young English woman in America. This one-woman show directed by Thom Currie opens Friday evening.

Performed on the stage in front of a live band, this musical takes audiences on a heartfelt and relatable journey through the high and lows of relationships, career aspirations, and personal growth.

Currie said he'd been working on the play since 2011 and he is thrilled to finally see it on the big stage.

“What's interesting about it is that the author, who is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, musical theatre composer of the 20th and 21st century just keeps revisiting this piece. This is the newest version of it. We're really excited about that,” he said.

“It's a story of a woman who goes on a journey of self discovery, kind of an Eat, Pray, Love sort of experience.”

The protagonist, known only as "the Girl," is played by the multi-talented Gabi Epstein, who has performed in Thunder Bay once -- in 2017 as the Killer Queen in We Will Rock You.

Epstein said being in a one-woman show is not new to her as a cabaret performer. She is excited for the challenges that come with it.

“It's not unfamiliar to me to be up on a stage doing an entire performance all by myself. This is very unique in that it's not my story, it's someone else's story,” she said.

“And so, there are challenges, but there are also really wonderful parts -- I can just dive in and not worry about being too personal or too specific about my life. I can really dive into a specific part that someone else wrote and give my own specific take on it.”

Tell Me on a Sunday opens tonight at 7:30 and runs until March 30.
