THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay and area residents would argue that they deserve a spell of nice weather after enduring an unusually cold October.

That's exactly what we can expect, according to Environment Canada.

The thermometer will climb to about 11 C on Tuesday and Wednesday before advancing to 14 C by Friday.  That's close to 10 degrees warmer than normal for Nov. 6.

The mild spell is forecast to continue at least through Sunday, before dipping back to normal territory next week.

October's average temperature in Thunder Bay was only 2.2 C, considerably below the long-term average of 5 C, and not much better than the all-time record average low for the month, which is 1.5 C.

Meteorologist Gerald Cheng said October saw "surges" of very cold Arctic air pour into the region.

"This is the time of year when air masses from the north and air masses from the south battle it out over Northwestern Ontario. We do see these fluctuations in temperature," Cheng said.

"The cold weather, unfortunately, won out."
