THUNDER BAY – A series of recent complaints has lead to some new restrictions for motorists who park along a section of Hill Street South.

Last week, the City of Thunder Bay posted temporary no parking signs from Bay Street to John Street. The signs are situated beside the speed limit signs placed in the middle of the road.

Project engineer Mike Vogrig said the signs were put up after several complaints from area residents.

It’s a situation caused by a construction project on High Street.

“[The problem’s] with other vehicles having to swerve onto the other lane or trying to get by the signs, so we ended up getting those temporary no parking signs put up so that wasn’t an issue,” Vogrig said.

“The bollards are there for the vehicles to slow down, but it was getting to the point where vehicles couldn’t pass in their own lane.”

Vogrig added people can still park on Hill Street, but not directly adjacent to the bollards.

The signs will stay up until the construction is complete, which is expected by the end of October.
