The Terrace Bay Pulp Mill has received a hefty fine due to discharges of effluent over the past few years.
Officials representing the AV Mill pleaded guilty to seven offences and was fined $250,000 in what the Ministry of Environment is calling a significant conviction.
The charges include failing to ensure that their effluent discharges and testing limits were maintained.
The offending substance is a by-product of the process when the mill transforms wood to pulp. The effluent must be treated before it is discharged into Lake Superior.
According to the MOE, the mill did not follow the correct guidelines.
The offences date back to 2013, and the charges were laid in June.
