The lure of free Air Miles has Rainy River OPP warning the public a text scam has hit the region.

Police say they’ve received several reports from people receiving a text redirecting them to a fraudulent website, with promises of an abundance of free rewards points.

Once directed to the site, the victim is then asked to provide personal information or credit card numbers.

The OPP reminds the public to be wary of such offers and treat such messages as suspicious.

Personal information should be kept confidential and shared only with trusted and verified sources, they added.
