THUNDER BAY -- City police officials say Hammarskjold High School has been cleared after an anonymous threat received earlier Wednesday morning led to the cancellation of classes.

Thunder Bay police were alerted to the threat at about 7:30 a.m. A significant police presence was in place outside the north side high school for much of the morning, as police vehicles were present at each entrance to the parking lot and stationed outside the building's doors.

The shutdown is the second time in the last week Hammarskjold has been closed for the day, after another unspecified threat was received on Feb. 22. The school had also been put in lockdown after a weapons call was received on Feb. 13.

The Lakehead Public Schools Twitter account responded to a parent who said vague information about the threats "is no longer good enough."

"We are all extremely frustrated by this reocurring issue. Everyone including staff from the school and the Board and the Police is working incredibly hard to rectify this," the Lakehead Public Schools Twitter response reads, which also adds that it takes the safety of all students and staff seriously.

Lakehead Public Schools has also lifted hold-and-secure protocols that had been in place Algonquin Avenue and C.D. Howe public schools, as well as Ecole Gron Morgan. As well, the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board also lifted hold and secure status at St. Pius X, Bishop E.Q. Jennings, Corpus Christi and Gateway schools.

A police statement said the incident is continuing to be investigated and anyone with information is asked to call 684-1200.
