THUNDER BAY – Police have arrested three males after an attempted theft at an automated teller machine at the Royal Bank on Arthur Street East.

In a release, police say they arrived on scene just after 6 a.m. on Tuesday to find a suspect allegedly damaging the bank’s drive-through ATM. Three suspects fled on foot when police arrived, but were arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

After investigating, police learned the individuals had caused significant damage to the front and insides of the ATM, attempting to steal the money stored within.

A 22-year-old, and 18-year-old and a youth were all arrested and charged with mischief over $5,000 and attempted theft. The 22-year-old was held in custody pending a court appearance on Wednesday. The other two suspects were released with a future court date.

None of the suspects were named. The youth cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
