Three arrested in Kenora area following drug trafficking investigation

Opioids and methamphetamine were seized along with firearms following the search of a vehicle and camper in the Kenora area late last week.

KENORA, Ont. - Three people are facing drug trafficking and weapons charges as part of an ongoing investigation into the sale of illegal drugs in the Northwest region.

According to a media release issued by the Kenora Ontario Provincial Police on Friday, police conducted a traffic stop in the city of Kenora on July 9 at approximately 9:30 a.m. and three people were arrested along with weapons and drugs seized from the vehicle.

Later that evening, police executed a search warrant on a camper at Silver Lake where a firearm and ammunition were also seized.

The execution of the warrants was part of an ongoing investigation by the OPP including the Community Street Crime Unit and Organized Crime and Enforcement Bureau into drug trafficking in the region.

As a result of the investigation, two people have been charged with possession of a schedule one substance (methamphetamine) for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a schedule one substance (opioids), knowledge of the unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, and failure to comply with a release order.

A third individual was charged with possession of a schedule one substance (methamphetamine) for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a schedule one substance (opioids).

Two of the accused were held for bail and a third was released to attend the Kenora Courthouse to answer to the charges on Aug. 19.
