Three new forest fires have been reported across the region by Sunday afternoon.

All three were caused by lightning in the Red Lake District, with them ranging in size from 0.5 hectares to two hectares.

Red Lake District Fire Number 17, which began on June 16, has been observed at 410 hectares with Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services personnel batting the blaze on the southern flank. That fire is classified as not under control.

Several fires in the Red Lake District, Sioux Lookout and Nipigon Districts are being monitored with aerial surveys done earlier Sunday to assess the fires.

While the forest fire hazard is low in the southern portion of the region, it ranges from high to extreme in the north.
