Paramedics rushed three people to the hospital, one in critical condition, after a single-vehicle rollover Thursday morning.
Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service report that emergency service crews responded to the crash just before 7 a.m. on John Street Road between Community Hall Road and Lawrence Road.
Police say the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee heading east lost control and rolled over into the north-side ditch. The vehicle came to rest on its side, a large pelt of grass and soil adorning the driver-side door and debris scattered for hundreds of feet along the road.
The vehicle sheared at least one tree and hopped a drainage ditch and driveway before coming to rest.
One person was ejected from the vehicle as a result, landing about 50 feet away from where the vehicle came to rest.
Det.-Const. Robert Miller said police are still piecing together what happened.
"It crossed the road a couple of times and ended up in the ditch," Miller said. "At this point we know we have one person in critical condition, but as far as I know we have no fatalities as a result of the collision itself. We believe alcohol was involved in regards tot he incident and we're continuing our investigation. We'll be following up on it."
All three occupants of the vehicle were taken to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre following the crash. Two remain in hospital and are said to be in good condition.
John Street Road was closed during the morning between Community Hall Road and Lawrence Road as the police force’s traffic unit conducted its investigation.
Police arrested a 38-year-old woman said to be a passenger in the vehicle after she was released from the hospital. Police say she was arrested because of two outstanding warrants.
A 43-year-old man and a 42-year-old man remain in the hospital.
The investigation continues.
