Three teens, 48-year-old man arrested following vehicle theft investigation

THUNDER BAY -- City police have arrested four people, a 48-year-old man and three teens, connected to the investigation of a string break and enters, and vehicle thefts.

Thunder Bay Police Service officials say the investigation focused on property crimes from all over the city and surrounding outlining areas over the past two months.

Police say on Dec. 8 at about 7 p.m., patrol officers spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier in the morning from a Hazelwood Drive home. The reportedly stolen vehicle was being driven on Arundel Street.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled. Police later found the vehicle abandoned on Merril Street.

Police say officers arrested a 16-year-old boy and 18-year-old man a short distances away for possession of stolen property over $5,000.

A suspected driver, a 17-year-old boy, was not originally found, but police say he was arrestable based on crimes of possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous driving, fleeing from police and breach of probation.

Meanwhile, on Dec. 10 just before 9 a.m. police say officers recovered two stolen vehicles in the Merril Street and Grenville Street area. As a result of information gathered during their investigation, officers arrested a 15-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy. a 17-year-old boy and a 48-year-old man.

The four were found at an apartment in the 300 block of Grenville Avenue just before 10:30 a.m.

All were taken into custody on the following charges:

15 year old female

  • Possession of Stolen Property Obtained by Crime, two counts
  • Possession of a controlled substance

16 year old male

  • Possession of Stolen Property, two counts
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking, two counts,
  • Obstruct Peace Officer

17 year old male

  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Flight From Police
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, three counts
  • Breach of Probation, three counts
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance, two counts
  • Carry Concealed Weapon

48 years old male

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, two counts

The 15 year old and 48 year old have been released with court dates while the 16 and 17 year old boys will be making a court appearance Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing.
