THUNDER BAY — It will cost more to park a vehicle at the Thunder Bay Airport as of Nov. 1.
The airport authority on Wednesday announced the hourly rate is rising from $2.00 to $3.00, and the daily maximum is going up from $20 to $22.
The additional revenue will support a $4.5 million expansion and upgrading of parking facilities.
That project, which is scheduled for completion by the end of October, includes the construction of 200 new parking stalls and the widening of existing stalls.
"We understand that fee increases are never ideal," said Jackie MacDonald, director of business development and revenue management for the Thunder Bay International Airport Authority, "but are necessary to support the infrastructure and service levels our community expects and deserves."
MacDonald said the upgrades are a direct response to "the increasing demand we're seeing from travellers," and that they will help improve safety and efficiency.
According to the 2024 annual report, 728,000 passengers passed through the Thunder Bay Airport last year.
