THUNDER BAY — A man charged with arson has been granted bail.

Randall Prien, 60, appeared via video before a justice of the peace in Thunder Bay Law courts on Monday morning for a bail hearing.

Under his conditions, Prien is not permitted to be in possession of any incendiary devices of any kind. He is also to abstain from consuming alcohol or non-prescription drugs outside of his residence, not to be within 100 metres of Barb’s Laundromat and he is to have no communication with a number of witnesses and staff at the laundromat on Cumberland Street.

Justice of the Peace Marcel Donio also endorsed an 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew for the accused. Prien was released on a $500 release order with no deposit.

Prien was brought into police custody in connection to a suspicious fire at Barb’s Laundromat in April on May 13.

He faces one charge of intentionally or recklessly causing damage by fire in connection to the April 19 incident.

Nobody was hurt in the fire but police deemed the fire suspicious in nature at the time.

Details of the allegation were not read into the record during Prien’s bail hearing.

Prien will return to court in August.
