Thunder Bay childcare centre workers vote to join union

CUPE wins certification at Kinderplace Childcare
collective bargaining

THUNDER BAY -- The Ontario Labour Relations Board has certified the Canadian Union of Public Employees to represent workers at a Thunder Bay childcare centre.

CUPE had applied to the board to set up a collective bargaining unit for employees of Kinderplace Childcare Centre Inc.

More than 50 per cent of the staff had voted in favour of joining CUPE.

In its decision, the OLRB said all employees of Kinderplace except for those above the rank of managers will belong to the bargaining unit.

Kinderplace operates a program for children newborn to age 12 at Vance Chapman School on Huron Avenue, and an after-school program for children ages to 4 to 12 at Ecole Gron Morgan on Marlborough Street.
