THUNDER BAY -- The Thunder Bay Community Foundation is pleased to introduce Melanie Blanchette as its new executive director.

Blanchette was born and raised in Thunder Bay and is currently completing her Master’s in Business Administration from Lakehead University. In addition to her involvement with many local charities over the years, she recently acted as executive director to the Thunder Bay District Humane Society.

Blanchette will be taking over for Bonnie Moore, who after six years of exemplary service, will be stepping down as executive director in June to return to her consulting business.

“I feel privileged to be appointed as the executive director of an organization as renowned and well-rooted in our community as the Thunder Bay Community Foundation," Blanchette said in a release.

"The Foundation has and will continue to, strive to make a positive impact on our city and our community. I look forward to facing the objectives that we as a team at the TBCF have set for the future of the Foundation, with great optimism and enthusiasm.”

The Thunder Bay Community Foundation, established in 1971, actively promotes community philanthropy for the long-term benefit of Thunder Bay and the surrounding area. It specializes in building endowment funds to support the ever-changing needs of Thunder Bay.

Over the past four decades, the Thunder Bay Community Foundation has given out nearly $5 million in grants and scholarships. Today, the Foundation holds about $11.3 million in trust for its donors.
