THUNDER BAY -- A Thunder Bay court has fined a city contractor and ordered him to provide restitution to homeowners who had hired him to do renovations.
The Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services says the case dates back to August, 2014 when the householders signed a contract with John Carlo Bossio of Bossio Design Inc. for renovations to a garage.
A deposit of nearly $5700 was paid but the work was not performed.
In December, the consumers cancelled the contract and asked for the return of the deposit but never received it.
A Justice of the Peace has fined Bossio $1,000 for an unfair practice and $1,000 for failing to refund.
He also ordered the contractor to return the homeowners' deposit.
The JP imposed a two-year probation with terms of restitution, a reporting requirement and reporting an address change.
