THUNDER BAY -- After being stalled for several years, work is due to resume soon on a condominium project on the grounds of the Thunder Bay Country Club.

Paperwork has been submitted at city hall for a building permit to complete the foundation of the building.

The application is currently being processed, and Chief Building Official Des Stolz told Tbnewswatch.com that he expects to issue the permit in the coming days.

"They want to get started within a couple of weeks, I understand," he said. "We're looking to issue the permit this week or next week."

Tbnewswatch.com was unable on Tuesday to reach developer Pete Waters of Waterloo, ON-based Rockwater Construction, Inc.

However, it's understood that once the condo foundation and parking garage are finished, Rockwater plans to cover over that part of the project for the winter and begin work on the residential units next spring.

Construction of the six-storey, 109-unit condominium, called The Club Residence, was started in 2012 but ground to a halt in the midst of financial difficulties.

Stolz said city officials "are excited that it's getting going...that's a big one."
