THUNDER BAY — Disturbing details of an alleged case of child neglect have come to light.

Thunder Bay Police found six young children unsupervised in a southside home, including one who had injuries and may have been malnourished.

Officers were dispatched to a residence the evening of March 3, 2022 to assist a local agency conducting a child welfare check.

They initially found five children, aged eight months to 13 years, inside the home.

In a separate room, they subsequently found a two-year-old who appeared to have injuries consistent with ongoing and recent abuse.

The child also seemed to be malnourished.

An investigation led police to a residence in the same neighbourhood where a man was arrested after a brief struggle.

He's charged with aggravated assault, failure to provide the necessities of life, and child abandonment.

Police have also charged a local woman with child abandonment and failure to provide the necessities of life.

The male accused was remanded into custody for a future court date, while the female was released on conditions pending her next court appearance.
