THUNDER BAY — Local scuba divers will take to the water Wednesday evening to remove trash from the Silver Harbour Conservation Area in Shuniah.
They will be joined by a land crew from Eco Divers Thunder Bay.
The group expects to retrieve a variety of debris ranging from tires to plastic bottles and fishing line.
"We are committed to working with divers to address marine debris issues locally and contribute to the global view of marine debris underwater," said Len Mason, the director of Eco Divers Thunder Bay.
"Scuba divers are uniquely positioned to tackle this issue, and to take action every day to prevent garbage from remaining in our waters," Mason said.
Divers will recover trash using rope with carabineers, and mesh bags attached to rope.
Volunteers on land will stack and organize the items for removal by the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority.
