Flu season opens Monday afternoon.

THUNDER BAY -- The first community immunization clinic for the 2017-2018 flu season opens Monday afternoon at the West Thunder Community Centre.

Flu shots are free to anyone living in Ontario who is six months of age and older.

You do not need an Ontario health card to get a flu shot through the Health Unit.

Some health officials are concerned that a worse-than-usual flu season this year in Australia could be a predictor of what will happen this flu season in Canada.

Health Canada reports that the percentage of laboratory tests that are positive for influenza remains higher for this time of year compared to the seven previous flu seasons. The majority of influenza detections are A(H3N2).
