THUNDER BAY — The number of patients admitted to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre who've tested positive for COVID-19 is showing signs of trending downward.

The hospital on Tuesday reported it had 34 such patients, including six in the Intensive Care Unit.

On Monday, TBRHSC had 45 patients with COVID-19, including eight in the ICU.

Last Friday, the figures were 49 and nine respectively, but there was a slight bump up to 51 on Sunday, with nine patients in intensive care.

According to available information, the total of 34 on Tuesday is the lowest number of admitted patients with COVID-19 since Jan. 21, 2022.

Across Ontario, 914 people were in hospital with COVID on Tuesday, with 278 in intensive care units.

A week ago, there were 1,038 hospitalizations with 319 patients in ICU.

In another development related to the pandemic, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced Monday that an outbreak of COVID-19 that was declared at Shelter House Thunder Bay on Feb.15 is now over.

Publicly-declared outbreaks in high-risk settings that are still ongoing include the Daffodil (1N) area of Hogarth Riverview Manor (declared Jan. 12, 2022) and the Chartwell Arundel Retirement Residence (Feb. 14, 2022).
