THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay Hydro is looking for volunteers to serve on a new Local Advisory Council.

An announcement issued Wednesday said the council will represent the customer's perspective as the company manages an evolving electricity industry.

The utility is inviting applicants representing each of its customer classes—residential, commercial and industrial.

Members will serve a two-year term and will be expected to meet at least four times a year. It's expected that between six and eight people will be appointed to the council.

Customer Service Supervisor Amanda Leonzio said "As a local distribution company, we are here to serve our customers' needs. In order to adapt to changes in those needs and expectations, we feel that an advisory council is the right setting for customers to give their input. We hope to get interest from a wide range of perspectives."

Thunder Bay Hydro and northwestern Ontario's second largest municipal electrical utility, Kenora Hydro, are currently in the process of merging.

Members of the advisory council will receive no financial compensation for their service.

Applications are available on the company website. The deadline to apply is April 10, 2018.
