THUNDER BAY — A 33-year-old faces child pornography charges after investigations involving Thunder Bay and York Regional Police.

In a Thursday news release, Thunder Bay police said an investigation started in November after the cyber crime unit became aware of a local internet user in suspected possession of digital material depicting child exploitation.

Police said the digital files obtained by investigators were consistent with child pornography.

As the investigation ensued, police also learned the same suspect was connected to a cyber investigation by York Regional Police.

A search warrant was executed at a Oak Avenue residence in Thunder Bay on Wednesday. A man was arrested at the scene and taken to the police station, and electronic devices were seized.

Joshua Maxwell is charged with making child pornography available, accessing child pornography, and possession of child pornography.

He appeared in court on Thursday and was released on conditions with a future court date.
