THUNDER BAY — A Thunder Bay man facing 43 charges related to child pornography was freed on bail earlier this month following a bail review in the Superior Court of Justice.
Skyler King, 26, was charged by Thunder Bay Police in May 2020 with charges related to child pornography and online child luring.
King initially applied for bail in the Ontario Court of Justice shortly after his arrest and was ordered to be detained by a justice of the peace on May 11, 2020.
Evidence and information presented at King’s bail hearings, including reasons for his detention, are protected under a court-ordered publication ban. A separate publication ban prevents the publication of any evidence that could identify a victim.
At the time of King’s arrest, police said this was one of the largest child pornography busts the Thunder Bay Police Service had seen in recent years. More than 200 victims were identified by police worldwide.
King applied for a bail review in the Superior Court of Justice in December 2020.
Justice W. Danial Newton delivered his decision on King’s bail review on Jan. 7 where he granted King to be released to two sureties. The sureties promised to pay a total of $3,000 for King's release.
King is subject to a number of conditions including living with both of his sureties in Thunder Bay, remaining inside his residence and under the supervision of at least one surety at all times. He cannot leave except for medical emergencies or for work in the company of his surety. The house listed on his recognizance cannot have any internet service, court documents show.
He also cannot possess electronic devices including cellphones, computers, any device capable of taking photos, tablets, or video game systems capable of accessing the internet.
Furthermore, King is also prohibited from accessing any social media platforms.
He is also prohibited from attending playgrounds, public parks, public beaches, public swimming pools, elementary or high schools, daycare centres, or other areas where children are likely to be present.
King is scheduled to appear in court again on Feb. 18.
