THUNDER BAY – A 59-year-old Thunder Bay man has won $269,666 playing Lotto 6/49.

Bryan Hamilton, who works in aircraft maintenance, told OLG officials he bought the winning second-prize ticket on a whim.

“I scanned my ticket using the OLG Lottery App – I didn’t think it was true. I was confused and thought someone was playing a joke on me,” Hamilton said, who shares a name similar to a Thunder Bay city councilor – but spelled a little differently.

He quickly told his wife.

“I told her she’d better take a seat – she thought I was lying. I had to send her two pictures. She was very excited.”

Hamilton said he plans to use the money for retirement and to make some renovations to his home.

It’s a nice load off. It’ll help my wife and I for retirement. It’s a breath of fresh air,” he concluded.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Metro on River Street.
