Thunder Bay native named to Federal Court of Appeal

THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay-born John B. Laskin has been appointed a judge of the Federal Court of Appeal.

The announcement was made by Jody Wilson-Raybould, minister of justice and attorney-general of Canada.

Laskin practised litigation for more than 30 years in the Toronto office of Torys LLP.

The announcement of his appointment notes that he was actively involved in the founding of the Lakehead University Faculty of Law in 2013.

In 2015, he was awarded the Law Society of Upper Canada's Law Society Medal, given for outstanding service within the legal profession.

During his broad trial and appellate practice, Justice Laskin represented individuals, corporations, governments and their agencies, public institutions, industry associations, public interest groups and indigenous organizations.
