A $6.7-million gift landed in Thunder Bay Friday for the OPP's Aviation service.
A 2013 turbo-prop Pilatus arrived in the city. It replaces a 1997 model that will be taken out of service after 18,000 hours of operation.
The shiny new fixed wing aircraft is expected to serve the Thunder Bay detachment of the OPP for the next 15 years.
Staff-Sgt. Dan Cameron says the plane flies nearly everyday and transports about 250 people people a month.
Seventy-five per cent of the time the aircraft is flying in and out of northern communities.
However, it does fly throughout North America from time to time. The old plane will be decommissioned of police equipment and eventually resold.
