THUNDER BAY — City police are asking motorists to exercise greater caution as Thunder Bay streets iced up overnight, leading to treacherous driving conditions.
Police issued an advisory early Wednesday morning.
They said the overnight rainfall, followed by plunging temperatures, ice pellets and snow had already led to a spike in traffic collisions.
"If travel is not absolutely necessary, you should consider staying home until weather and roadway conditions improve," the advisory stated.
Those who are required to drive despite the weather should take extra care to leave plenty of space between vehicles and approach intersections with extreme caution as they are likely to be very slippery.
This may result in vehicles entering intersections against amber and red lights, increasing the risk of collisions.
