THUNDER BAY -- A unique sight over the skies of Thunder Bay Monday.
A B17 bomber, dating back to 1944, made a stop in our city along with a smaller B25 bomber.
The two vintage aircraft will be on the tarmac outside the Confederation College Aviation Centre all week for public tours.
On Monday, several air force veterans from the Second World War got a chance to fly in them.
The bombers were brought through a collaboration of the college, the Thunder Bay International Airport, the Northwestern Ontario Aviation Heritage Centre, and the Arizona and Minnesota Chapters of the United States Commemorative Air Force.
The U.S.Commemorative Air Force is a non-profit organization consisting of vets that fly these restored aircraft to promote aviation heritage.
The four-engine restored B17 G Bomber, is known as the Flying Fortress and Sentimental Journey and the B25 Bomber as Miss Mitchell.
They flew over the city Monday afternoon and are now parked on the ACE apron for a week-long static show for the public. They will leave Aug. 8.
There will also be an opportunity to purchase flights, but they are restricted to certain days toward the end of the week.
Gate admission for the static display is $10 Canadian.
