THUNDER BAY – Morgann De Franceschi has always loved to give back to her community.

She’s volunteered at Shelter House and a Precious Bundles, helping the organization put together clothes for families in need and has even written book reviews for the Thunder Bay Public Library.

As a result, the 14-year-old Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute freshman was honoured with a certificate of recognition through the Ontario Junior Citizen Awards, handed out by the Ontario Community Newspapers Association.

She’s not really sure what drives her to volunteer her time.

“I just really like the saying that you’ve got to make the world a better place,” the Thunder Bay teenager said.

“I strive for that, I guess.”

There’s plenty of satisfaction in knowing she’s helped others.

“I love giving the bundles to people and seeing how happy they are when they get them,” Morgann said of her volunteer work with Precious Bundles.

The teen was one of two local certificates of recognition recipients in the latest round of awards. Thunder Bay’s Grace Dunn also earned a certificate from the OCNA.
