THUNDER BAY — City officials say Thunder Bay’s bike lanes are now ready for use.
In a media release issued Thursday morning, the city said the opening was delayed this year due to “extended winter weather” and the associated accumulation of debris.
The lanes being open means parking restrictions are in place in designed lanes and will be enforced, the city said.
They are expected to remain open until November 15, weather permitting.
“With warmer weather and rising fuel prices, drivers can expect to see more cyclists on city streets,” the city’s release said. “Motorists are reminded to stay alert, respect bike lanes and share the road by yielding at intersections, allowing safe passing distance and reducing speed near cyclists.”
The city has 69 kilometres of bike lanes on roadways, as well as 60 kilometres of separate multi-use trails.
