THUNDER BAY – It’s a game the Lakehead Thunderwolves would rather forget.
The women’s basketball team managed only 11 points in the opening half, trailed by 33 points with two quarters to go and dropped a decisive 82-27 contest against the visiting No. 3 Queen’s Gaels.
The Thunderwolves struggled with the ball, hitting just nine of 54 shots on the night, including a dismal 0-for-17 from beyond the arc.
Nine of their 27 points came on the free-throw line.
Eva Guilera led LU with nine points off the bench, while fellow Spaniard Paula Lopez chipped in eight.
Not once did the Thunderwolves hit double digit points in a quarter against Queen’s, who improved to 18-2.
Julia Chadwick put up 19 points in just 22 minutes for Queen’s.
Lakehead (4-15) has an outside shot to make the playoffs, but will need to pick up at least two more wins to realize the accomplishment.
They’ll start with Ontario Tech on Saturday, a team with just one win in 20 outings.
Game time is 6 p.m. at the CJ Sanders Fieldhouse.
