THUNDER BAY -- The Lakehead Thunderwolves have snagged a centre who was originally destined to play for the University of Maine Black Bears.

The school on Friday announced it had landed Winnipeg's Austin Peters, their latest offseason recruit.

Peters spent the past two seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League. After putting up 17 points with Chilliwack in 2023-24, Peters scored 10 goals and added 24 assists in 52 games this past season with the Spruce Grove Saints.

The 5-foot-10, 21-year-old is a graduate of the Winnipeg Warriors program.
