Tight-deadline tax bills a mistake, ministry says

Officials with the Ministry of Revenue say a computer system error is to blame for a recent mail out that gave some rural residents less than three days to pay their provincial land taxes.

Officials with the Ministry of Revenue say a computer system error is to blame for a recent mail out that gave some rural residents less than three days to pay their provincial land taxes.

The bills went out to people in the unincorporated areas on Nov. 30, but many of them contained a due date of Dec. 3.

That prompted numerous angry phone calls.

Ministry officials have announced they are extending the payment period until Jan. 31 and Feb. 28 for those taxpayers.
