THUNDER BAY – The artists of tomorrow are now on display.
From now until June 14, art created by students attending Thunder Bay high schools will be featured in the Thunder Bay Art Gallery’s annual Secondary School Art Showcase.
Throughout the past 30 years, about 7,500 pieces of art from nearly 7,000 students have been shown in the local art gallery. Each school has the opportunity to choose the best art to be displayed for the public at the annual student art exhibition at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery.
On Thursday both the students and teachers, from eight high schools happily gathered at the art gallery to welcome the public for their first viewing of this year's showcase.
“We have a nice mix of everything,” said Keith Ailey, a visual arts teacher at Superior Collegiate.
“From the standard drawing, and then there's water color and acrylic painting. You also have clay and then there's bead work and the mixed media sculptors and there's all these amazing different media that has been incorporated."
Ailey added that each school has the opportunity to display up to about two dozen works, both two and three dimensional.
The Annual Secondary School Art Showcase runs from May 28 to June 14 and will be available for the public during that time.
