A tornado touched down near Dryden Tuesday afternoon, Environment Canada says.

The tornado was spotted around 4 p.m. Tuesday 12 kilometres northwest of Dryden. Environment Canada had issues a tornado warning for the area stretching from Kenora to Sioux Lookout after receiving several calls about funnel clouds near the Dryden Airport.

Meteorologist Geoff Coulson said after seeing video evidence of the storm determined that it was in fact a tornado, which traveled towards Sioux Lookout. Coulson says the damage is still being assessed but he doesn’t believe it’s substantial.

Coulson says the worst of Tuesday’s storm activity kept to the west of part of the region, with no tornados reported in the Thunder Bay area.

A similar tornado warning was issued Wednesday afternoon in the Timmins area.
