Toronto man charged after police seize drugs and cash

One Toronto man is facing charges following the execution of a search warrant on Tuesday.

THUNDER BAY – City police have one man in custody on drug-related offences following the execution of a search warrant at a south-side residence.

Thunder Bay Police responded to a call for service at a residence in the 200 block of Finlayson Street on Tuesday just before 11:30 a.m.

According to a release, responding officers were allowed into the residence to check on the welfare of people inside.

As a result, a male at the residence was arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Officers found the male was in possession of a quantity of suspected crack cocaine and cash.

The Thunder Bay Police Service’s drug unit, with assistance from OPP, NAPS and APS later executed a search warrant at the home. As a result of the search, officers located about $70,000 in cash.

Police also seized a quantity of suspected crack cocaine believed to have an estimated street value of about $53,000 and a quantity of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of about $26,000.

Police continue to investigate the suspect’s possible affiliation with Toronto-area gangs.

Police charged Michael Prahay, 28, of Toronto with two counts of possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

He appeared in court Wednesday morning and was remanded into custody with a future court date.
