Traffic complaint leads to charges in Atikokan

A 52-year-old Atikokan resident is facing charges following an incident on Sunday afternoon.

FORT FRANCES – A traffic complaint in Atikokan has resulted in charges for one individual.

According to a Rainy River District Ontario Provincial Police release, officers were advised of a traffic complaint Sunday around 4:30 p.m.

Officers located a motor vehicle in a business parking lot on Mackenzie Avenue.

Officers commenced an investigation and a driver was arrested at the scene and brought to the Atikokan Detachment for further tests.

As a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old of Atikokan resident is charged with operation while impaired- alcohol or drug, possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine.

The driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver’s license suspension and the motor vehicle was impounded seven days.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 12, 2022 in Atikokan.
