THUNDER BAY - The city is asking drivers to avoid Edward Street this week whenever possible.

The south side roadway will be undergoing construction at two different points which will restrict access at two different sections.

Work began Monday at Woodlawn Street to install a new storm sewer. That project will see Edward Street closed to through traffic for about five days.

Detours will be posted at Redwood Avenue to the south and at the intersection of Edward Street and James Street and William Street to the north.

Construction remains ongoing between Arthur Street and Victoria Avenue with Edward Street restricted to only southbound traffic, which may be periodically restricted. That closure is expected to last throughout the week.

Timelines are subject to change as a result of various factors, such as weather.
