TRAFFIC STOP IN LONGLAC LEADS TO DRUG SEIZURE AND CHARGES


(LONGLAC, ON) – On July 14, 2015 at approximately 1:40pm a member of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway #11 in the community of Longlac to investigate a suspicious vehicle.

Through subsequent investigation, the officer determined that the occupants of the vehicle were involved in the trafficking and possession of illegal drugs.

As a result, the following individuals were arrested:

• Shawn LEGARDE, a 33-year-old male from Long Lake #58 First Nation, Ontario.
• Marie MARTENS, a 58-year-old female from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
• Tasha SHEBAGABOW, a 20-year-old female from Long Lake #58 First Nation, Ontario
• Desmond REDSKY, a 26-year-old male from Ginoogaming #77 First Nation, Ontario.

They are each charged with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA):

• Possession of a Schedule III Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methylphenidate.
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Oxycodone
• Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marijuana.
All four of the accused remain in custody pending a video appearance at the Thunder Bay Ontario Court of Justice on July 15, 2015.
