Traffic stop results in impaired driving charges

An evening traffic stop has resulted in impaired driving charges for one Atikokan resident.

FORT FRANCES – An Atikokan resident is facing impaired driving charges following a late night traffic stop.

Rainy River Ontario Provincial Police officers conducted a traffic stop on Tuesday, Dec. 14 just before 10 p.m. in the Township of Atikokan.

Police spoke with the driver.

As a result of an investigation, the driver was arrested at the scene and was taken to the detachment for further tests.

A 22-year-old Atikokan man was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Atikokan on Jan. 12, 2022.
