May 6, 2016 – Improvements to Water Street are scheduled to begin on Monday.

City officials, in a release issued on Friday, said the work will include milling, paving and manhole, valve and catch-basin leveling. It’s expected to take eight days to complete and will result in daytime lane closures during construction.

The road will be fully reopened at night.

The city said the restoration is a short-term solution for the badly deteriorated route until long-term infrastructure projects are confirmed.

It’s believed the city is waiting to learn whether or not an event centre will be built before committing to long-term Water Street repairs.

The project is the first of two phases. The first phase will be conducted between Villa and Cumberland streets, while the 2017 portion will be done between Pearl Street and Red River Road.

Motorists are reminded to use extra caution and obey all traffic signs.
