PICKLE LAKE, Ont. – A Pickle Lake man is facing drug trafficking charges after police seized substances including cocaine and magic mushrooms in the northern community earlier this week.

The seizure comes after a joint investigation by the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), including its Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau.

Officers executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act warrant on Monday in the community, located about 500 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.

Illicit substances seized in the investigation included cocaine and psilocybin (magic mushrooms), and had an estimated street value of $12,500. Police also seized over $3,600 in Canadian currency.

As a result, a Pickle Lake man, 51, faces two charges of possession for the purposes of trafficking (Schedule I and Schedule III), and posession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused has been released from custody and is set to appear in the Mishkeegogamang First Nation Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 4.

In a release, the OPP encouraged members of the public to report information about illegal drug trafficking in their communities, by calling OPP at 1-888-310-1122, at www.p3tips.com, or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, where they may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
