Transport driver charged after crash near Nipigon

Driver left with minor injuries after transport crashed into rock cut near Nipigon, charged with careless driving.

McALLISTER TOWNSHIP, Ont. – The driver of a tractor-trailer unit has been charged with careless driving after a single-vehicle collision east of Nipigon that left him with non-life-threatening injuries.

The collision occurred around 8:30 p.m. Saturday when the transport left the highway and struck a rock cut, said Det. Const. Mitch Brennen of the OPP.

The driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and charged with careless driving under section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The collision occurred in McAllister Township east of Nipigon, though the OPP was not immediately able to provide a more precise location.

The crash closed Highway 17 for several hours Saturday night between Nipigon and Schreiber, according to Ontario 511.
