Transport driver dies in Highway 17 collision

Monday evening collision occurred near Ignace.

IGNACE, Ont. — Ontario Provincial Police say an Aylmer, Ontario man died in a single-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway on Monday evening.

James Duchene, 55, was driving a westbound tractor-trailer that went out of control, overturned and came to rest in the ditch on Highway 17 about 30 kilometres west of Ignace, shortly after 8 p.m.

Duchene was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident caused the highway to be closed to one lane of traffic for approximately seven hours overnight.

The Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit is assisting in the OPP's investigation into the cause of the collision.
