THUNDER BAY -- Plan for a proposed transportation museum are rolling along.

City council received a memo from administration Monday night saying its met with the Heritage Transportation Committee several times now and it's up to the committee now to keep going. Chair Charlie Brown said that's exactly what they intend to do with a meeting Monday night to start the Lakehead Transportation Museum board. They're hoping to house the brill buses, CN Caboose, VIA passenger train and James Whalen tug.

He said it's been several years to get to this point.

"Now I think that they've seen we're actually serious about what we want to do and that the community is behind us and now we're going to go and do it," he said.

"I'd like to be able to come back to council by the end of this year with a solid proposal."

That would include a business plan, preferred site, building size and what the organization might look like.

Brown said in the meantime, volunteers are working with city administration on how to maintain the heritage vehicles.

Several councillors spoke in support of the idea and said they hope the rest of the city can get behind the plan.
