KENORA, Ont. — The Treaty Three Police Services Board will allow the contract of current Chief of Police Louie Napish to expire on Thursday, August 30 without renewing it.
In a statement Wednesday, the board cited performance-related issues for its decision.
Napish has been on suspension, with pay, since July 17, 2018, for reasons that have not been made public.
In the statement, board president Cindy Shabaquay said "While it is not appropriate to get into detail at this stage, performance related issues have arisen...that the Board determined made it best for all concerned that we move on to a search for a new Chief of Police."
Shabaquay said the board is grateful to Napish for his years of service.
Acting Chief of Police Jeff Skye will retain the position until the search for a replacement is completed.
The Treaty Three Police Service is headquartered in Kenora.
