A truck broke through the ice on Lac Des Milles Lac Friday after the driver tried to assist another person whose truck was going through the same ice.

Thunder Bay Detachment OPP officials say the driver of a 2008 GMC Sierra was on the ice attempting to get closer to another truck when it broke through the ice. That truck is now resting in 30 to 40 feet of water, police said.

No injuries were reported as a result of this event.

The Ministry of Natural Resources, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada have also been contacted.

Police are reminding area residents and visitors to check ice conditions before heading out onto the lakes as recent warm weather has made some areas unsafe.
