OPP officers closed a portion of Highway 527 after a fuel truck travelling on the roadway burst into flames.
Just after 3 p.m. Monday police received a call about the burning truck, located 45 kilometres north on Highway 527. The driver says he smelled smoke and quickly pulled over. After seeing flames coming from underneath the hood, he abandoned the truck.
The incident led officers to shut down the highway as a precaution, causing lengthy delays for drivers.
The OPP re-opened the northbound lane later Monday night, ending a three-hour closure.
OPP officials said Monday night that the southbound lane would remain closed until cleanup was complete, which was expected to be sometime Tuesday morning.
The truck did not contain any fuel at the time of the fire, and there are no reported injuries.
