THUNDER BAY -- The trial of a local man accused of heading up a criminal organization has been extended until the New Year.

John Harry Tsekouras, 40, began his criminal trial on Nov. 12.

The case was expected to take one month to hear evidence and reach a verdict. But the Crown Attorney says instead of wrapping up this Friday, the trial will take a break.

Court proceedings will resume on Jan. 6, 2015.

Tsekouras pleaded not guilty to eight counts of drug trafficking and possession. The case involves the 2011 police drug probe known as Project Dolphin, in which Tsekouras and fourteen other people were arrested.

Tsekouras is currently free on bail.

None of the charges against the accused have been proven in court.

A publication ban was placed on all evidence in the case, and that will continue until the trial is complete.
